Funny in Farsi #1

Quote 1:
"The bathrooms were clean and the people were very, very kind.” -Firoozeh
Page 6

Significance:
When Firoozeh said this it implied that so far her experience in America and with Americans had been good. It also shows you that having clean bathrooms was a new and good adjustment for Firoozeh. So far, the Americans are treating Firoozeh and her family now.

Personal Connection:
My connection is that I have had friends and family come to visit or move here from a different country, and I think it is nice when other people treat them nicely and with respect. Also, if I go to a different country I would want people to talk to me and treat me nicely.

Question:
If you have been to a different country, how did the people treat you?
OR
If you have not been to a different country, how would you like the people treat you?

Quote 2:
“Disgruntled, I hung up and looked around to find the rest of the herd. They were gone.
One of my father’s biggest fears in America was child kidnappings.” -Firoozeh
Page 19

Significance:
This was a small hardship because Firoozeh got lost and her father was going to think that she was kidnapped. Firoozeh’s father would then not trust America as much. Therefore, Firoozeh, being seven years old at the time, had to make sure that she found her family.

Personal Connection:
I have had my brother get lost in a big place before, and the first thing you think is that he had been kidnapped. Really he just walked away and was not paying attention.

Question:
If you have gotten lost, what did it feel like? What was going through your mind?
OR
What do you think it would feel like to be lost?

I would like to be treated how i treat others. That way it would be fair to me and the other people. Mother always said "Treat others how you would like to be treated".

Quote 1 [response]I like how you talked about how Firoozeh felt when she came to America. Firoozeh is a very bright girl and she expresses how she feels about everything.

Answer to Question: They would treat me with respect and so would I. I think that I would be kind and generous but that has happened before when I went to other countries and continents.

Quote 2: [response] I was shocked when I read that quote because I automatically knew that Firoozeh was missing and that she was going to go to the lost and found because she is very clever. I'm glad she knew where to go since she has been to Disneyland 15 times.

Answer to Question: I would be so scared that I would probably faint because I get so scared that I just have a panic attack. I have never done that but that's what would happen if I got lost. But it would have to be in a place that I'm not familiar with.(the area)
