Title: Lord Of The Flies
Chapter: #9
Chapter Title: A View to a Death
Character Perspective: Ralph
The Beast Inside Us All
It finally came to my head that no one was around but Piggy and me. Where did they go? Piggy said that they all snuck off to go have a feast at Jack’s camp. Go figure. He also said we should go too just to check and make sure everything is ok. I think he just wants meat, because I know he hates Jack and wants nothing to do with him. Once we arrived there everyone went silent and the first person to talk was jack, and he ordered the boys to give us some meat. I noticed that the boys treated him like a king, or like royalty. How odd. Like always jack and I started bickering and I told him I was going to call a meeting, but no one listened to me. Then it started raining, and it wasn’t just a little it was full on pouring rain, and jack ordered everyone to do some sort of dance and form a circle around roger who was acting as a pig in the middle. I have to admit, he did look a bit corpulent. All of the sudden some boys came running out yelling that the beast is coming out of the forest. The circle transformed into a horseshoe shape, and as soon as the beast came out every started jabbing it and trying to kill it. It looked as though the beast was talking but he could not be heard because of the chanting boys and the noisy rain. Out of nowhere a parachute fell down on us holding what looked like a body. Everyone went screaming into the forest. A couple minutes later I walked out of the forest and could see phosphorescence on the sand. That is when I realized, it was no beast that we killed. It was Simon. Innocent, helpless, Simon. And he was dead. Maybe he was right. Maybe, the beast is inside us all, and that was why he was killed tonight. No one would listen to him. Poor, poor Simon.
